Phytochemical investigation of the ether fraction of the methanolic extract of Scilla peruviana, S. villosa and S.numedica, led to the isolation of three homoisoflavanones 1, 2, and 3. They were identified according to their chemical and spectral data as 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-(4-methoxybenzyl) chroman-4-one, 5,7-dihydroxy-6- methoxy-3-(4-hydroxybenzyl) chroman-4-one, and 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-(4-hydroxy benzylidene) chroman-4-one (autumnalin) respectively The isolated compounds showed anti-bacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria as well as anti-fungal activity. In addition, the ether extracts of S. peruviana and S. villosa showed anti-inflammatory activity.
