Abstract

The macro-and micromorphological characters of the leaves, stems and roots of Salvia merjamie Forssk growing in Saudi Arabia are described to find out the diagnostic features of these organs by which the plant can be identified in both entire and powdered forms. Moreover, microscopical numerical values of leaves and certain Pharmacopoeial constants such as crude fibre, total ash, water soluble ash, acid- insoluble ash and moisture content were determined according to the British Pharmacopoeia to authenticate the plant species.
