A new iodophore preparation (chitosan iodine cream) was prepared. Its antimicrobial activity iast different microbial standard strains was evaluated and compared against the antimicrobial rivity produced by the commercially available povidone iodine (Betadine) ointment. The results revealed that chitosan iodine cream produced almost equal antimicrobial activity against the tested microbial standard strains to that produced by povidone iodine (Betadine) ointment. These results suggest the use of the new iodophore preparation (chitosan iodine cream) as an efficient antiseptic and as an alternative to the commercially available povidone iodine (Betadine) ointment.
